My name is Melissa Moziejko and I am a diabetic fitness model and Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I have competed in three NPC bikini shows and have qualified for North American Championships. However, I have not always dedicated my life to lifting and clean eating. Four years ago, I was diagnosed with diabetes. I was a college track athlete and was by no means out of shape. In fact I was relatively thin and was, for the most part, able to stay athletic while eating whatever I wanted. My diet generally consisted of very, very starchy carbs and low fats. As a runner, that was essentially all I knew about diet. Eventually that caught up to me, and I developed metablic syndrome. I was put on a very strict diet and was able to stay off of insulin for about 4 years. Within that time, I competed in three NPC bikini competitions.
In September of 2013, I became extremely sick and ended up in the hospital with diabetic ketoacidosis. I was put on 40 units of insulin, right out of the hospital and was producing no insulin. Within three months of clean eating, I started producing insulin again and have lowered my insulin regimen by 3/4s.
Since then, I have been featured in AllAboutMuscle.com and have represented Muscle & Fitness Magazine at the Arnold Class 2015.
My goal is to promote a healthy, balanced lifestyle for not only diabetics, but anyone who would like to develop overall health and wellness.
